Eliminate waste while feeding your garden
I love my Foodcycler. I have cut down on what goes into the garbage or disposal by a great deal. I am doing one cycle a day and that much waste is now enriching my garden. Love it.
I live in Illinois (US) and I've been composting kitchen scraps and garden refuse for years and have always been disappointed with the length of time and effort it takes to generate usable compost. So I've really been looking forward to getting this appliance. I received it about a week ago. It was very easy to set up and use. I still have to get a good spot for it in my cluttered kitchen, but I've used it several times now and am very happy with the results. I sprinkled my first 24:oz batch onto the dirt of my herb garden. I don't know yet if it will help the plants grow (and how would one know?), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I wonder if I could add the amendment to my compost tumbler to enrich that soil? If your goal is to create compost that can be used to mix with existing soil and increase the level of dirt in your garden, this is not the way to go about it. But I love the fact that this method is an alternative fertilizer.
Hi Elise, Thank you so much for your review! For best results, we do recommend letting the by-product sit for a period of at least one week after it has finished being cycled, then mixing it in with your garden soil at a ratio of 1 part Foodilizer: 11 parts soil. Another great alternative would also be adding it to your tumbler if you have one handy. Happy FoodCycling, Jillian & The Food Cycle Science Team
So far it’s working great!
I’ve completed four runs so far and it seems to be working ok- albeit the last cycle didn’t end up nice and dry like the other three. I’ve decided that it may have been too many potatoes, so I’ll adjust the combination for the next cycle. What I truly love is the quick turn around to getting rich compost for my garden. Might have to toss the old tumbling composter!
Love it works as advertised
It is working really nicely. The residue at the end of the cycle looks just like in the video. I now collect the residue in my little compost pail instead of the raw material I used to put in the outdoor compost. The countertop compost pail fits 6-7 loads of FoodCycler residue in it, then I go empty it in my garden. I was hopeless at getting my outdoor bins to heat up and cook the compost, so it smelled really bad. The FoodCycler has no smell. I run about 3 loads a day. I wish the bucket was bigger, but I’m getting the hang of processing it frequently. I cook a lot and we eat a lot of vegetables, so there is a lot of composting that we do. This is pretty thrilling, indoor composting so quickly, effortlessly without bad smells.
